Summer is here and like every other, the sweltering heat is crashing us down. While you can’t do much about the scorching sun, there are quite a few things you can do to keep yourself cool during the summer. What follows are 4 best ways in which you can stay cool during the summer.
Hydration is the key
Everyone knows the importance of remaining hydrated. It improves your metabolism, aids in weight loss, clears acne, but most importantly keeps you cool, which makes it extremely crucial to stop the soaring temperature from ruining your day. Tote a bottle of water and gulp down every once in a while. And if you find the bland taste of plain water aversive, spice it up with herbs. Infuse herbs like mint, basil, rosemary, peppermint or whatever your fancy and a splash of lemon if you desire. Let it soak overnight or for a few hours and sip on it throughout the day. Avoid caffeinated and alcoholic beverages beverages as they constrict blood vessels and hinders the body’s ability to cool itself.
Load up on fruits and vegetables
Steer clear of hot and spicy meals, protein-rich spreads and fatty food. Also limit excessively salty foods. According to experts, these can send you into a metabolic overdrive and raise your body temperature. It is also important that you stick to small, frequent meals throughout the day, rather than gorging on heavy meals. Favour foods that cool you down and opt for water-laden fruits and vegetables and throw in some sprouts, raisins, nuts and seeds for that little extra. These foods will replenish your body with fluids, keep you hydrated and help you stay cool.
Mind your fabrics
Looking presentable might seem like a distant dream, let alone looking your best when the weather report calls for a meltdown. But, there’s always a way to work around the weather. Choose fabrics that can breathe, preferably cotton or linen, and avoid synthetic and other heavy fabrics that constrain airflow and hold heat close to the skin. Dress yourself in white or other bright colours that reflect sunlight and ditch colours like black that absorb it. If you’re a lady, choose skirts over pants as they allow airflow and let the heat to whirl away. Also, don’t forget your sunglasses, hats and umbrellas when you step out into the sun.
Workout with a splash
Exercise is essential to keep yourself as cool as a cucumber. Whatever be the form of exercise you enjoy, it’s not really advisable to hit the streets or pump iron in the middle of the day when the sun is at its strongest. Early morning or late in the evening is the best time to get a quick workout in. Light exercises like yoga or slow jog is ideal while swimming is highly recommended over strenuous outdoor exercise.
